UW Men's Golf to Make First-Ever TV Appearance
October 31, 2007 | Men's Golf
The UW men's golf team will make its television debut at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, when the newly launched Big Ten Network airs tournament coverage and a recap show of the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge.
Coverage of the competition, which took place at Chambers Bay golf course in University Place, Wash., from Oct. 21-22, will then re-air on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m; Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. and again on Nov. 25 at 11 a.m.
'The challenge was a unique event and Chambers Bay was a spectacular golf course,' head coach Jim Schuman said. 'It'll be very cool to see the competition showcased on the Big Ten Network. Our guys knew that it would be on TV and are looking forward to watching it.'
Unfortunately for the Badgers, the Big Ten/Pac-10 was the team's least impressive showing of their successful 2007 fall season.
In a season where Wisconsin twice finished in second place at tough competitions and that also saw both Danny Zimmerman (Verona, Wis.) and Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) finish tied-for-first at different invites, UW was unable to piece their talent together at Chambers Bay.
Regardless of their struggles, Schuman maintained a positive outlook on his team.
'You have to look at things in the big picture,' Schuman said. 'We were on the West Coast the week before and were only back for a day and a half before flying back out. The competition was great, as six of the seven competing teams were ranked ahead of us. Overall, we definitely benefited from playing in the challenge. '
The Badgers finished last place in the eight-team challenge (316-297-309=922). UCLA claimed the team championship (294-287-298=879) while Michigan State's Ryan Brehm (68-75-67=210) won the individual title.
