October 04, 2007 | Women's Golf
The University of Wisconsin women's golf team hits the road again this weekend for the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The 13-team invite kicks off with an 8:30 a.m. shot-gun start Saturday, Oct. 6 on the par-72 6,202-yard Finkbine Golf Course and concludes Sunday.
Wisconsin is coming off its best finish since the beginning of the 2006 season with a second place finish at last weekend's Wolverine Invitational. The Badgers tallied a three-round score of 908 and were just four strokes behind the top team, Notre Dame.
At the invitational, three of the six Badger competitors placed within the top 15 while the other three landed in the top 30. Junior Natasha Lopez (Asuncion, Paraguay) led the squad with her sixth place finish after scoring a season-best, 225. Senior Katie Elliot (Madison, WIs.) was close behind Lopez with her tie for ninth after scoring a 228.
Junior Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) also had a season-low score of 73 in the second round of the Wolverine Invitational. She finished 14th, just two strokes behind Elliot with a 230.
Beth Weinstein finished tied for 21st last weekend but more notably, she broke her career low three-round score. The junior from Fargo, N.D., previously broke her career low at the Lady Northern Invite earlier this season by scoring a 245 but then shattered that score with a 233 at the Wolverine Invitational. Weinstein tied with sophomore Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) for 21st. Junior Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) rounded out the Badger competitors and finished tied for 28th with a 236.
This weekend, the Badgers will compete against Cincinnati, Creighton, host-Iowa, Jacksonville State, Longwood, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, UT-Chattanooga, UT-San Antonio and Western Illinois.
