
Badgers Fall to Wolverines, Wildcats

The University of Wisconsin men's swimming team was unable to catch No. 5 Michigan and No. 18 Northwestern at the Northwestern Triangular, which concluded Saturday in Evanston, Ill. UW fell 283-86 against Michigan and 237-131 against host-Northwestern.
The Badgers set 15 new season best-times over the two-day meet.
In the first race of the second day of competition, Wisconsin's `A' 200-yard medley relay team comprised of Derrick O'Donnell, Eric Johnson, Scott Rice and Phil Davies took third place with their time of 1:32.36.
Rice later took third in the 100-yard butterfly (49.63) and second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.18) while Johnson placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.29) and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.74).
Senior captain Brett Koerten was UW's top finisher in the 400-yard IM (4:04.44) and freshman Kyle Thompson took fifth with his time of 1:41.29 in the 200-yard freestyle. Mike Hopkins took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (52.38) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.14).
Wisconsin's 800-yard freestyle relay `A' team (Rice, Mike Desautels, Kyle Sorensen and Thompson) took fifth (6:52.69) and Desautels also placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (45.99).
Freshman Luke Lengfeld was UW's lone competitor in the 1,650-yard freestyle and captured eighth place with his time of 16:30.75.
In the final swimming event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Wisconsin 's `A' team took third as Desautels, Davies, Kyle Sorensen and freshman Greg Zupek combined for a time of 3:02.39.
On the three-meter springboard, freshman Caleb Percevecz was UW's top finisher as he scored 288.95 points, earning fourth place.
The Badgers travel to Austin, Texas next weekend to compete in the Texas Invitational.
