Badgers Ready to Face the Huskies
November 29, 2007 | Men's Hockey
The No. 13/14 University of Wisconsin men's hockey team (5-6-1, 2-4-0 WCHA) will host No. 10/11 St. Cloud State (7-3-2, 3-2-1 WCHA) this weekend, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Kohl Center. The Badgers are unbeaten against the Huskies in the past 11 meetings, going 8-0-3 since a series loss to the Huskies on Oct. 17-18, 2003.
The games against No. 10/11 St. Cloud State will be the ninth and 10th consecutive games against a ranked opponent for the Badgers. The Badgers are 2-5-1 in the previous eight games against ranked opponents during this stretch. For the season, the UW has skated 10 of its 12 games against ranked opponents.
After a loss and a tie in last weekend's games at the College Hockey Showcase, the Badgers are looking to snap their five-game winless streak (0-4-1) with this weekend 's series. In Friday's game on Nov. 23, the UW fell to No. 2 Michigan by a score of 3-2. Saturday's game against No. 6 Michigan State ended in a 4-4 overtime draw. Junior Ben Street led the way for the Badgers with a goal in both games, including the game-tying goal at Michigan State.
In action last weekend, the Huskies split a series with Clarkson, winning 4-1 on Friday night, but dropping Saturday's game, 3-2. Freshman Garrett Roe scored his ninth goal of the season in Saturday's loss. St. Cloud State has two players tied for second in the nation with points per game (1.67) in sophomore Ryan Lasch and Roe. Lasch also leads the WCHA in power play goals, while St. Cloud State leads the conference in power-play efficiency.
The weekend series against the Huskies will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night. The first game will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports Net, and tape-delayed on Wisconsin Public Telivision. Saturday's game, which also is set to face off at 7 p.m., will be live on MyMadison TV and again tape-delayed on WPT. Saturday's game will also be shown live on WMLW channel 41 in Milwaukee, WIWB channel 14 in Green Bay and WKBT DT in La Crosse.
