
Incoming Golfer, Werwie, Wins Tournament

Incoming Wisconsin women's golfer, Carly Werwie, shot a second-round five-under par 67 en route to a total score of 139 (72-67) to win her third Wisconsin Section Westfield Girls Junior PGA Championship in four years, played at the Yahara Hills East Golf Course in Madison, Wis., Tuesday.
A native of Kenosha, Wis., Werwie earned her fourth consecutive trip to nationals. She has won the title the last three times she played here but due to an exemption to play in the national tournament she did not compete last year.
Werwie, the 2006 Wisconsin Golf Coaches Association Co-player of the Year, will come to UW from Kenosha Bradford High School. She won the WIAA State High School Individual Championship in 2004 and 2005 as well as being a member of the 2005 WIAA State High School Championship team. A three-time all-state selection and four-time first-team South East Conference honoree, Werwie was a 2005 and 2006 USGA Junior Girls Qualifier, US Women 's Amateur Publinks Qualifier and was the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 as well.
