August 10, 2007 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Wisconsin men's and women's swimming head coach, Eric Hansen, travels to Japan to work with the U.S. National Team at the Japanese International Grand Prix on Aug. 21-25.
Hansen will work with the 62 athletes that comprise the men's and women 's U.S. Nationals teams at the meet. One of these swimmers is former Badger Adam Mania, who recently set a new record in the men's 50-meter backstroke at the 2007 ConocoPhillips National Meet last week.
'The Grand Prix will serve as a tune-up for the U.S. National Team and is the last international meet prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics,' said Hansen. 'We (Wisconsin) are coming off of a very successful national meet (the 2007 ConocoPhillips National Championships) where we qualified another five UW swimmers for the Olympic Time Trials next year. I envision we will have a total of 18-22 Wisconsin athletes qualify for the Time Trials.'
