Jones' First Pro Win A Memorable One
August 06, 2007 | Men's Golf
Former Badger Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) won the Capital Times Invitational at Hawks Landing in Verona, Wis., his first tournament win since turning professional. However, the win didn't come easy.
After Jones bogeyed on two of the last four holes on Sunday, a playoff was forced between him and former UW teammate Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.), as they both finished with a 36-hole total score of 137, 7-under par.
Jones claimed the title on the second playoff hole with a two-putt birdie on the par-five 9th, while Kaiser bogeyed the hole.
The final leaderboard included other UW golfers. Patrick Duffy (Appleton, Wis.) finished in third place (73-67=140) and UW's head men's golf coach, Jim Schuman, finished in fifth place (70-72=142).
Danny Zimmerman (Verona, Wis.) tied for ninth place (75-70=145), Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) and former Badger Adam Steinhofer (Madison, Wis.) tied for 17th place and Nick Engen (McFarland, Wis.) finished tied for 39th place (81-74=155).
