UW Ready for VCU Invite
September 30, 2007 | Men's Golf
After spending the last two weeks off, the UW men's golf team will shoot back into action on Monday, Oct. 1, when they participate in the VCU Invitational in Richmond, Va., at Hermitage Country Club.
The Badgers have played well in the young season thus far and will face another tough test over the next two days.
'The team is doing well but we need to get better scoring out of our fourth and fifth spots,' head coach Jim Schuman said. 'Zimmerman and Woltman both played well two weeks ago on a difficult course but we need more consistency from our other guys.'
Danny Zimmerman (Verona, Wis.) will enter the competition with a good amount of momentum having tied for first place at the Minnesota Invitational two weeks ago.
Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) also comes into Virginia with high expectations, as he is the invite's defending champion and will attempt to repeat.
Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.), Jeff Kaiser (Onalaska, Wis.) and Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) will round out Wisconsin's five-man roster for the event.
All five players will face tough competition in the 15-team field. Virginia Commonwealth, Wake Forest, South Florida, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wichita State, Maryland, Penn State, Iowa State, Liberty, UNC-Wilmington, Southeast Louisiana, Old Dominion and Chattanooga will all participate in the invite.
'You're not going to win these types of tournaments with only two or three athletes playing well,' Schuman said. 'Again, we're going to need contributions from everyone throughout the 54 holes in order to compete. '
The VCU Invitational will last from Oct. 1-2 at Hermitage Country Club in Richmond, Va.
