
Wisconsin to take on Michigan, Michigan State at McClimon

The Badger women's soccer team (7-6-1) will be at home this weekend to face Michigan and Michigan State in the McClimon Soccer complex. The matchup against Michigan will be on Friday at 7 p.m., and Wisconsin will wrap up the weekend by taking n Michigan State at 1 p.m. Last season, Wisconsin faced both Michigan and Michigan State on the road in the same weekend, losing both games 2-1. Current senior Taylor Walsh recorded one goal and one assist against the teams in the 2007-08 campaign.

The Wolverines are fresh off their first Big Ten win of the season, where they shut out Ohio State 2-0 at home in Ann Arbor, Mich., last Sunday. Before the win over the Buckeyes, Michigan had not won a game since Sept. 11. Michigan's Amanda Bowery leads the team in points, and she recorded her sixth goal of the season against Ohio State for a total of 15 points on the season. So far in the 2008 season, Michigan has gotten out-shot by its opponents 192-102, but the Wolverines have also put up 65 total saves this season compared to 29 by opponents. Michigan has more ties this season ' both in the overall standings and in the Big Ten conference standings ' than any other Big Ten team. Wisconsin's last win against Michigan came in 2005, when the Badgers downed the Wolverines 2-1 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Michigan State
Wisconsin's last win over Michigan State was a 3-0 shutout in November of 2006, where current senior Taylor Walsh scored two of the three goals. The Spartans are not ranked nationally,but have been receiving votes, they also lead the Big Ten in average number of points per game, goals per game and assists per game. Freshman Laura Heyboer also leads the conference in points per game with a 2.67 average, and she leads in goals per game with 1.17 average over six games. Michigan State junior Lauren Hill leads the conference in assists per game. Hill and Heyboer are the top two leading scorers for the Spartans. Wisconsin, Michigan State and Indiana are the only Big Ten teams whose leading scorers so far this season are freshmen.

Last weekend, Wisconsin won its first Big Ten conference game of the season against the Indiana Hoosiers, shutting them out 1-0. Senior Taylor Walsh scored the only Badger goal with a minute and 20 second left to play in the second half. Goalkeeper Jamie Klages made one save in the game, and the Hoosiers put up only six shots to Wisconsin's17. Of the Badgers' 17 shots, five were on goal.

Eleven of the Badgers' 23 goals this season and 30 of Wisconsin's 69 total points have come from freshmen.
Freshman Laurie Nosbusch and senior Taylor Walsh are atop Wisconsin's leading scorer list this season. Nosbusch leads and has 14 points, five goals, four assists and 25 shots on goal in 12 games, while Walsh is a close second with 13 points, six goals, one assist and 13 shots on goal in 10 games.
Goalkeeper Jamie Klages leads the Big Ten in saves per game with 27 saves in the Badgers ' five conference games for a 5.40 average.
Nineteen players on Wisconsin's roster have recorded at least one shot on goal this season.
Fourteen of Wisconsin's 23 goals this season have come in the second period of their games.
