Men's diving to compete in Arizona
November 21, 2008 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The University of Wisconsin men's diving team splits off the from the swimming team this weekend and travels to Tucson, Ariz. for a diving meet at the newly remodeled Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on the University of Arizona campus. The meet runs Friday through Sunday, with events taking place from 1 p.m. (CT) to 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday and Saturday and from 12 p.m. (CT) until 2 p.m. (CT) on Sunday.
The format will be that of the NCAA championships where the top eight divers in the preliminaries will go on to the finals, while the next eight will compete in the consolation.
For the team, this will be their only competition away from the swimmers except for the NCAA Zone Diving meet coming in March.
This weekend the team will rely on standout sophomore Caleb Percevecz (Scottsdale, Ariz.), along with others, to achieve success.
Percevecz owns the top two scores on the season for the team on the 1-meter board as well as the top four scores on the 3-meter board. A good omen for the team is that his highest scores came in the team's dual meet at No. 3 Arizona on Oct. 31, showing that he can be at his best against top competition. Percevecz has competed in four meets this year and has racked up four first-place finishes, with two coming each on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
While Percevecz will be the key, the Badgers will be looking for contributions from other divers this weekend.
Sophomore Tim Feyereisen (Hudson, Wis.) owns the team's third-best score on the 1-meter board, registering a 309.02 against Arizona. That score earned him a third-place finish, which goes along with the pair of fifth-place marks he earned against Northwestern and UW-Milwaukee, respectively.
Fellow sophomore Louis Schiff (Winnetka, Ill.) has also had a solid season thus far. He has been consistent on the 3-meter board, with three of his four scores coming in between the range of 299.40 and 287.25. He placed second against UW-Milwaukee and earned a fourth-place finish against both Iowa and Northwestern.
