Badgers hit the links in Milwaukee

Wisconsin's annual PGA Tour stop, the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, began this morning with three players that have current or past ties with the Wisconsin men 's golf team. Current head coach Jim Schuman, UW senior-to-be Dan Woltman and former Badger golfer Jon Turcott are all in the field of 132.
Schuman's round starts on the 10th hole at 12:55 p.m. CT. He will be playing with Tommy Gainey and Jason Allred. Turcott tees off at No. 1 at 1:05 p.m., playing with Todd Demsey and Nick Flanagan. Right behind them on the first tee is Woltman's threesome, which includes Chris Stroud and Craig Kanada.
Woltman, a two-time NCAA qualifier, is the only amateur in this week's field. He qualified for the U.S. Bank Championship by virtue of his victory in the 2007 Wisconsin State Open, a two-stroke victory over Schuman. The Badger head coach earned a spot in Milwaukee by winning a playoff at Bristlecone Pines Golf Course in Hartland on June 31 to claim the only qualifying spot in WPGA sectional qualifying. Turcott, a member of the Nationwide Tour with three top 25 finishes to his credit this season, was given a sponsor 's exemption.
Three others with UW connections took part in the tournament's Pro-Am, held yesterday. Those players included current Badger football coach Bret Bielema, former UW offensive lineman (and current Packer) Mark Tauscher and former Wisconsin men's basketball coach Dick Bennett.
