After round 1 on Monday, the Wisconsin men’s golf team is tied for 12th place with Louisiana Tech University and Penn State University at the Memphis Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tenn. The three share a round 1 score of 314.
The tournament located at the par-72, 7,259-yard Colonial Country Club suspended round 2 due to darkness. Players will continue with round 2 beginning on Tuesday at 8 a.m. with round 3 following shortly after.
The University of South Alabama currently holds the first place position with a round 1 score of 296. USA’s Marc-Etienne Bussieres finished in first after round 1, tallying a 1-under-par, 71.
Freshman Michael Sorenson (Hartland, Wis.) led the Badgers and tied for 20th overall, carding a 4-over-par, 76. Just three strokes behind Sorenson were the Wisconsin duo of senior Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman Sam Frank (Oconomowoc, Wis.). Both concluded round one tied for 52nd place with a score of 79.
Anthony Aicher (Wausau, Wis.) finished just one stroke behind Elsen and Frank, tallying an 80 and finished round 1 tied for 58th overall.
Making his career debut was freshman Scott Newton. The Carrollton, Tex. native finished with an 89 and concluded his first collegiate round in 90th place.
