MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin went into overtime for the eighth time this season as the Badgers played to a 0-0 tie against Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Sunday afternoon. The Badgers stand at 8-5-5 overall and 4-1-4 in the Big Ten.

“We were a little slow to start today,” said head coach Paula Wilkins. “We played well defensively limiting their opportunities but we are disappointed we didn’t get the result we wanted. Today our youthfulness showed by the lack of patience near the end of the game, but I have to give credit to Michigan for doing a great job defending. This is a good lesson for our players, having to play on the road for the second day and learning what we need to do to get the results we want.”

Wisconsin had the upper hand over Michigan in the first half with 10 shots to the Wolverine’s four. Wisconsin’s goalkeeper, Michele Dalton, came up with one save to keep the game 0-0 going into halftime.

The second half played out the same way with UW outshooting Michigan, 9-3.

Wisconsin saw its best scoring opportunities in the second half, both coming from inside the six-yard box. The first chance came when sophomore Laurie Nosbusch fed the ball to freshman Alev Kelter inside the box but her shot went wide.

Freshman Monica Lam-Feist had another chance from inside the box with help from another freshman, Paige Adams, but Michigan’s Haley Kopmeyer came up with the save.

Dalton and Kopmeyer each had two saves in the second half to force the game into overtime.

Both defenses took over in overtime, limiting both teams to only four shots each.

Kelter led UW with an impressive eight shots, the most by a Badger player this season. Wisconsin outshot Michigan 23-11, while Dalton finished with three saves and Kopmeyer had five.

Wisconsin’s eight overtime games are the most in a season in program history. The Badgers are 2-1-5 in overtime this season.

The Badgers close out the regular-season against conference-rival Northwestern on Nov. 2, in Evanston, Ill.
