
Walch wins Florida state championship

MADISON, Wis. – Elise Walch, a 2010 signee with the Wisconsin volleyball program, can add another honor to her impressive list of honors – state champion. Walch, a 6-5 middle blocker/outside hitter, led Martin County High School in Stuart, Fla., to the 2009 Florida State 5A Championship on Thursday night in Lakeland, Fla.
Walch had 32 kills in the championship match as the Tigers defeated Leon High School from Tallahassee 25-16, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21. She had the match-winning kill as she hit .500 for the match. Walch added three service aces, four digs and two blocks for Martin County.
In the championship semifinal match, the Tigers defeated Newsome High School from Lithia, Fla., 25-14, 25-16, 25-15. Walch had 19 kills and hit .531 for the match. She also added three digs, six blocks and two service aces, including the match-winning ace.
On the weekend, Walch averaged 7.29 kills per set while hitting .511. She added 1.14 blocks, 1.0 digs and 0.71 service aces per set.
Martin County finished the season 31-1 and is currently ranked 10th nationally by PrepVolleyball.com.
