MADISON, Wis. - Two members of the 2010 University of Wisconsin volleyball class have received several notable honors following their signing with the Badgers earlier this month.
Elise Walch, a 6-5 outside hitter from Stuart, Fla., was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) fourth annual Under Armour Girls High School All-America team. She was one of 24 seniors named to the first team and has been invited to play in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition on Dec. 20 in Tampa, Fla., in conjunction with the 2009 AVCA Annual Convention.
Requirements for nomination were that the student-athlete be in her senior year of high school, that she be nominated by her high school coach, that her coach be a member of the AVCA and that her season statistics be entered into MaxPreps, a free service that aggregates and distributes data on high school sports. For more information on the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition, go to www.avca.org.
Annemarie Hickey, a 5-8 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Joliet, Ill., has been named the Illinois state player of the year by the Chicago Tribune and Champaign News Gazette. She led Joliet Catholic Academy to the 2008 and 2009 Illinois class 3A state titles. Hickey led the Angels in both kills (388) and digs (359) during a 41-1 season in 2009.
