MADISON, Wis. – Two Badgers were named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region after leading the UW to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1993. Freshman Alev Kelter (Eagle River, Al.) was a First-Team All-Region selection while sophomore Laurie Nosbusch (Mequon, Wis.) made the Third Team.
Kelter was a strong presence in the midfield for the Badgers, earning the accolade for her great ball-winning presence and athleticism. Kelter headed in both of UW’s goals in a 2-1 win over DePaul earlier in the season.
Nosbusch, the team's leading scorer, had an impressive Big Ten season, scoring six goals during league play, including her first career hat trick in a 3-2 victory over No. 19 Indiana. Nosbusch finished the season leading the Badgers in nearly every offensive category including, six goals, six assists and three game-winning goals.
“I am very excited to have Alev and Laurie represented in the All-Region Team,” said third-year head coach Paula Wilkins. “We feel it's a representation of the success of the program and the direction it is moving.
“We are proud of Alev and Laurie, to have two younger players represented on the team bodes well for the future of the program and we hope to continue to get the players and program this great recognition.”
With the help of Nosbusch and Kelter the Badgers finished the season with a 10-6-6 record and a 5-1-4 mark in the Big Ten, its best conference finish since 2000, giving UW sole possession of third place.
