
Hickey named Gatorade Player of the Year

MADISON, Wis. – Annemarie Hickey, a 2010 signee of the University of Wisconsin volleyball program, has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Illinois.
For 25 years, Gatorade has recognized America's elite high school students for their athletic achievement, academic excellence and exemplary character. Winners are recognized in 12 sports in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. One athlete in each sport is also recognized as the Gatorade Player of the Year.
Hickey, a 5-8 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Joliet, Ill., was named the Illinois state player of the year by the Chicago Tribune and Champaign News Gazette. She led Joliet Catholic Academy to the 2008 and 2009 Illinois class 3A state titles. Hickey led the Angels in both kills (388) and digs (359) during a 41-1 season in 2009.
Hickey is ranked No. 94 on PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces and was also a second-team PrepVolleyball.com Defensive Dandy. She was recognized as the ESPN/Rise National Athlete of the Week on Oct. 22, 2009, and was named an ESPN/Rise Top 9 selection for 2009. As a junior, Hickey was named a PrepVolleyball.com all-American and was nominated for High School Junior of the Year.
Hickey plays club volleyball with 1st Alliance under Coach Anne Mastandrea. She was named to the2009 JVDA all-tournament team, leading her club to a second-place finish in the 17-open division. Hickey also earned JVDA all-tournament honors in 2008 and was named the most outstanding attacker at the 2008 PrepVolleyball.com Classic.
