UW Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Barry Alvarez, continues his series of Badger Voices where he presents the UW Athletic program's views on topics of interest and current events.
In this segment he talks about the Kohl Center, home to the men's and women's basketball and hockey teams at Wisconsin. This venue has proven to be the home court or rink advantage for the UW teams who have led the nation in hockey attendance and have sold out seven-straight seasons for men's basketball.
Alvarez comments on the electricity of the crowds at the recent Duke and Marquette men's basketball games and cites men's basketball coach Bo Ryan's home record of 128-10 as evidence the venue serves to intimidate opposing teams.
He continues the video series talking about the matchup with the Badgers and Miami Hurricanes in the upcoming Champs Sports Bowl Dec. 29 in Orlando. As always, the former UW football coach puts the game in perspective with an eye to the future benefits should the Badgers gain a win over a higher ranked opponent. He talks about what that lends to the team in the off-season as well as the national media focus it provides for the UW program.
He also commented on the pre-season success of the men's and women's hockey and basketball teams as they are poised to enter their conference seasons saying the Wisconsin tradition in those sports is very strong.
