
Golfers defend title at Johnie Imes Invitational on Monday

Madison, Wis. - Fresh off of its thrilling victory at the Badger Invitational, the Wisconsin’s women’s golf team will travel to the Johnie Imes Invitational Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 4-5. The tournament will be held at the par 72, 6,204 yard course at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
The Badgers are the defending champions of this event, having won the 2009 Johnie Imes Invitational by four strokes over Tulsa with a 303-299-301—909. Now-graduated Molly Schemm tied for second with a 223 to lead a Badger contingent of Jessie Gerry, Alyssa Elliott, Kelsey Verbetten and Carly Werwie. Linsday Danielson and Kris Yoo join Elliott, Gerry and Werwie on the trip this week.
Last week UW played host to the Badger Invitational held its home course University Ridge in Madison, Wis. The Badgers held off a hard-charging Augusta State team to win with a 282-300-297=879. Augusta State finished two strokes back with 304-286-291—881. UW set school for 18-holes shooting a 282 in the first round.
The Badgers also claimed medalist honors with senior Carly Werwie leading the field with a school 54-hole record 3-under-par 71-69-73--213.
The Johnie Imes includes a field of 14 other teams: Missouri, Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Colorado, Florida International, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Princeton and Texas State. Play opens Monday, with a shotgun start of 36 holes beginning at 8 a.m. On Tuesday, play concludes with another shotgun start at 8 a.m.
