
Mikaelsen named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

MADISON, Wis. – Julie Mikaelsen, a freshman on the University of Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today. She earns her first player of the week honor of her career.
Mikaelsen recorded a career-best five blocks against No. 15 Michigan on Saturday, including three block solos. The freshman, who is a native of Askim, Norway, also added two blocks vs. Michigan State on Friday to average 1.0 blocks per set on the weekend.
Offensively, the 6-3 right side hitter had 11 kills against Michigan and seven against Michigan State to average 2.57 per set. Mikaelsen also hit .319 on the weekend adding one ace, one assist and nine digs for 0.14, 0.14 and 1.29 per set averages, respectively.
The Badgers (14-9 overall, 3-9 Big Ten) hit the road for their next four matches starting things off on Wednesday in Champaign, Ill., as they take on No. 6 Illinois at 6 p.m. Wisconsin then travels to Evanston, Ill., on Saturday to face off against 24th-ranked Northwestern at 7 p.m. before going to ninth-ranked Penn State and Ohio State on Nov. 12 and 13, respectively.
