Mitchell named honorable mention All-Big Ten

MADISON, Wis. – Alexis Mitchell, a sophomore on the University of Wisconsin volleyball team, has earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors, the Big Ten Conference office announced today. Mitchell picks up her first Big Ten honor as selected by league coaches.
“Alexis made some great progress in her game over the course of the last year and it was noticed by all of the Big Ten coaches,” said UW Coach Pete Waite. “She’s a dynamic offensive player who drew the attention of all the conference blockers. We’re excited to see Alexis get this recognition because I know it will motivate her to continue to improve her game.”
Mitchell, a 6-foot middle blocker, led the Badgers with 78 total blocks and with a .299 hitting percentage. She averaged 2.31 kills per set, recording double-digit kills in nine matches. Mitchell had a career-high 19 kills at Ohio State on Nov. 14. She also had career bests in hitting percentage, assists, service aces and digs this season.
In addition, junior Janelle Gabrielsen was recognized as the Badgers Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient. The 6-foot-1-inch setter averaged 10.35 assists and 3.06 digs per set this season. Gabrielsen led the Badgers with 20 double-doubles (double-figure statistics in two categories) this season.
