No. 11 UNC too much for Badgers

In the first day of Wisconsin's ACC swing, the women's tennis team took on No. 11 North Carolina. The Tar Heels proved too much for the Badgers dropping the 6-1 decision at UNC. The undefeated Tar Heels will travel to Madison next weekend for the ITA National Indoor Championship.
The day started off in competitive fashion in doubles play as UW took on three ranked pairs. In the No. 1 spot, Angela Chupa and Alexsandra Markovic took on the No. 6 pair of Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand while UW freshmen Hannah Berner and Kathleen Saltarelli played the No. 22 duo of Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston in the No. 2 spot. Both UW pairs fell 8-1 giving UNC the doubles point.
However, Jessica Seyferth and Alaina Trgovich challenged the No. 28 pair of Jocelyn Ffriend and Haley Hemm in the No. 3 spot keeping the score close throughout the match. The duo ultimately fell 8-6 as the Tar Heels went into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Chupa battled UNC's No. 25 Marand in their second matchup of the day. Marand came out on top again defeating Chupa 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Seyferth fought hard in the No. 4 spot taking the match to a third set against Zoe De Bruycker. After another close game for Seyferth, De Bruycker earned the 10-7 win in the third set.
Berner grabbed the Badgers lone win of the day against UNC's Hemm in the No. 6 spot. Berner came back from a 6-2 loss in the first set for a 6-0 win in the second set and then a 6-4 win in the third set.
The Badgers finish off their ACC swing tomorrow, Feb. 7 as they challenge North Carolina State at 1 p.m. CT.
