West Lafayette, Ind. - The Wisconsin men’s golf team is in 12th place after round one of the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday. The second round was suspended due to heavy rain at the par 72, 7,465-yard Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
The University of Illinois was in first place at the end of round one after carding a 279. Ohio State finished nine strokes behind Illinois to cement the second place position. Matt Hoffman, of Illinois, shares the top spot with OSU’s Brad Smith. The duo carded a four-under-par 68 in the first 18 holes.
Freshman Sam Frank (Oconomowoc, Wis.) led the Badgers, who carded a 303 in the first round. Frank tallied a three-over-par 75 for a share of 38th place.
The freshmen trio of Michael Sorenson (Hartland, Wis.), Anthony Aicher (Wausau, Wis.) and Thomas Welk (Bismarck, N.D.) all finished one stroke behind Frank for a share the 43rd position.
Senior Jordan Elsen (Kenosha, Wis.) recorded an 80 in the first round and tied for 64th place.
Most players got through 13 or 14 holes in the second round before being called off the course. Play will resume with a shotgun start at approximately 8:45 a.m. (ET) on Sunday.
