The honors just keep on coming for Wisconsin women's soccer junior Laurie Nosbusch. Once again, Nosbusch was awarded for her success in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) with the FC Milwaukee Nationals.
Nosbusch, who captained the Nationals and is one of the Badgers' current captains, was named to the WPSL's 2010 All-Midwest Conference Team last week. This week, however, the Mequon, Wis. native, received All-WPSL Second Team accolades.
Throughout the summer, the Nationals, who completed its first season with the WPSL, matched up against some of the best women's soccer players in the country.
In its rookie year with the league, the team advanced to the WPSL National Semifinals in Richardson, Texas. Despite falling to the Boston Aztecs in the semifinal matchup and tying the Oklahoma Alliance FC in the third place game, the Nationals recorded an impressive 9-2-2 season record. Nosbusch scored two goals during the Final Four tournament and finished the season with eight goals.
After the first day of preseason practice with the Badgers on Wednesday, Nosbusch reflected on her summer success with the Nationals.
"I had a really great experience with the FC Milwaukee WPSL team," Nosbusch said. "We got to the National Final Four with that league and that was a huge accomplishment.
"Starting with that team I didn't expect to have so much success, so it was really nice to play throughout the entire summer at a really high level. It was a great experience to also finish the season at the highest level of the league in the Final Four tournament."
Joining Nosbusch, Wisconsin sophomores Joana Bielefeld, Alyssa Vogel and Lindsey Johnson also spent the summer with the Nationals. After experiencing a lot of success during the summer, the FC Milwaukee quartet and the rest of the Badgers are back in Madison and onto day two of preseason training.
