
Former Badger rower wins age group at Ironman Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- Former Wisconsin women's openweight coxswain Claire Geiger finished the grueling 2010 Ironman Wisconsin in a time of 11:22:53 on Sunday to win the women's 18-24 age category.
Geiger finished the swim portion of the Ironman in 1:07:57 in sixth place among her age category. She moved up fourth after a 6:03:32 bike segment. Finally, Geiger's 4:02:52 marathon gave her the top spot and her total time of 11:22:53. The time was good for 40th among all women in the race.
One of UW's team co-captains during the 2008-09 rowing season, the Evanston, Ill., native coxed the 2009 varsity eight and the 2008 varsity four at the NCAA championships for the Badgers. A two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, Geiger is also a former Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Geiger has been in Madison the past year as a volunteer assistant coach with UW's novice openweight program.
