MADISON, Wis. – Women’s swimmer Beckie Thompson was named the Big Ten’s Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Competing against Northwestern last weekend, the New Berlin, Wis., native posted two NCAA provisional qualifying marks with first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and 50 free.
Her time of 22.82 in the 50 free marks the fastest time in the conference and the fifth-best time in the nation this year. She helped the Wisconsin ‘A’ relay team record a time of 1:41.76 in the 200 medley relay, which is the fourth-best time in the Big Ten this season.
The honor marks the second for a Wisconsin women’s swimmer this season with Ashley Wanland earning the award on Nov. 1.
Wisconsin’s swimming and diving teams will be back in action Dec. 1-3 when both the men and women travel to Austin, Texas, to take part in the Texas Invitational.
