GOLD RIVER, Calif. – With the 2011 NCAA Rowing Championships starting on Friday, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its all-region rowers and junior Vanessa Kleiss (Grantsburg, Wis.) and junior Rachel Buchholtz (East Troy, Wis.) made the teams. The CRCA also announced winners of its 2011 Scholar Athletes and a total of 13 Badgers, including eight openweights and five lightweights, made the cut.
Kleiss, a first-team all-central region rower, spent the entire spring as part of UW’s varsity eight. Buchholtz, a second-team all-central region team member, also rowed all spring in the varsity eight. Both were part of the Big Ten Boat of the Week after the crew defeated Minnesota on May 1 on Lake Mendota in Madison, Wis. Both will compete this weekend in the NCAA championships.
