
Wanland makes 2011 USA Pan American Team

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin senior Ashley Wanland will be representing the Badgers as one of 48 swimmers selected to represent the United States at the 2011 Pan American Games held in Guadalajara, Mexico on October 14-30. Pool events will take place on October 15-21.
Wanland will be competing in the 100-meter breaststroke; an event she finished in fourth place at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships with a time of 1:08:33. Wanland also competed in the 200-meter breaststroke at the World University Games in China, where she took seventh place with a time of 2:28.90 in her first top-eight finish in international competition.
Last season, Wanland earned three All-American honors, adding to her three honorable mention All-American honors in her previous three seasons at UW. In addition to these honors, Wanland won two titles at the 2011 Big Ten Championship as a member of the 200-meter and the 400-meter medley relay teams and individually placed second in the 100-meter breaststroke and fourth in the 200-meter.
Held every four years, the Pan American Games are the second-largest multi-sport event behind the summer Olympics. The swimmers participating this year were chosen based on their performances at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships.
