NORFOLK, Va. — The No. 25 Wisconsin wrestling team (1-1) dropped its first dual of the season Friday, falling, 19-12, on the road to Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
The Badgers got victories by decision from Tyler Graff at 141 lbs., Frank Cousins at 165 lbs., Jackson Hein at 197 lbs. and Connor Medbery at heavyweight on the night, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Monarchs' six match wins as Wisconsin dropped the first of its two-dual swing through the state of Virginia.

The night started with two-straight decision wins for the Monarchs. Jerome Robinson began the night with a 5-2 victory over Matt Cavallaris at 125 lbs., followed by a Scott Festejo’s 5-2 win over Tom Kelliher.
Wisconsin got its first points of the night courtesy of an 8-4 decision win from Tyler Graff over Old Dominion’s Justin LaValle.
LaValle came into the match ranked No. 16 in the country at 141 lbs., earning the third-ranked Graff his second win of the season over a ranked opponent.
The Monarchs recovered and won four out of the next five matches—including one by a 14-4 major decision from No. 19 John Nicholson over Alex Yde at 157 lbs.—effectively sealing the match in Old Dominion’s favor.
Old Dominion’s run was only interrupted by Frank Cousins’, 4-1, win over Tristan Warner at 165 lbs., but the damage had been done.
Wisconsin went on to win the final two matches of the night. Jackson Hein won an 8-3 decision over Jacob Henderson at 197 lbs., and No. 16 Connor Medbery—making his season debut—won at heavyweight by an 11-7 decision over Matt Tourdot.
The Badgers conclude their road trip Sunday with a trip to Blacksburg, Va., to face No. 12 Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
