Quotes vs. Ohio State
Feb. 6, 2012
On Ohio State:
"They are a very talented (team). (Samantha) Prahalis is one of the most talented guards we’ll see. She did a great job for her team. She doubled up on most everybody who scored. When you have a player like that – she’s not very big, she’s very effective, she can handle the ball and shoot. I told our kids ‘That’s a lesson for you,’ You don’t have to be big and you don’t have to be super quick but if you can handle the ball and shoot pull=up jumpers and threes, you can do a lot of damage out there and she showed that.”
On turning the ball over 22 times:
"We’re not great off the dribble and you have to do what you can do to not turn the ball over. We had 22 turnovers but it was more of the passing decisions. They really didn’t take it from us on the ball. You can’t throw a prayer pass – throw the ball up and pray that one of your teammates is going to get it. You can’t have that kind of game and expect to do well out here."
On a tough week against two ranked teams:
"We’d rather learn winning than losing but against a team like this, it’s very difficult because they have the guard play and they’re big. If you make them throw up a shot, they have 6-5 and 6-2 big girls in there to get the rebound. We haven’t shown that we can box out with the consistency that we need to to get the over-the-back calls. You have to put a body on somebody and we haven’t done that well so it hurts you in the end."
On her team in the game:
"You can’t trade twos for threes but (Ohio State) only had 12 (3-point) attempts and they normally have way more than that. Tayler Hill hit when we were standing right there and we didn’t challenge her. It’s just little things like that that really hurt you. I expect more from them and that’s why I’m pretty mad about it.
"They’re giving good effort and there were some positive things in this game. Taylor (Wurtz) score quite a big, Morgan scored and Jade did score, despite the eight turnovers, she did give us some points. Anya being out this game probably hurt us more than the last (game). But you have to play who is available, you can’t cry about who is not available. You have to play and you can’t fold up the tent because one person is out. We’re not a one-person trick pony. We have some people who can play but part of our problem is we’re not understanding our assignments on defense. At the drop of a hat something could change and you have to be ready for that."
