Big Ten honors Berggren, Danielson for sportsmanship

• 2012-13 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Winners 
MADISON, Wis. -- Their athletic accomplishments have been well-documented, but Wisconsin men's basketball senior Jared Berggren and women's golf senior Lindsay Danielson were also recognized for their sportsmanship on Thursday.
The Big Ten announced the 24 conference student-athletes named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2012-13 academic year. These individuals were chosen from a group of over 300 student-athletes honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. From each university's list, two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected. All of the Sportsmanship Award honorees have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
In addition, these student-athletes must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
A 2013 second-team All-Big Ten honoree, Berggren averaged 11.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game this season for the Badgers. The Princeton, Minn., native was also named to the Big Ten's All-Defensive team after becoming UW's all-time leader in career blocks (144). Berggren was one of just four players to rank among the Big Ten's top 25 scorers and top 10 rebounders.
After leading the team the past two years, Danielson concluded her career at UW by smashing the school's all-time scoring record, averaging a career 75.67 strokes per round. Danielson culminated her prestigious career by leading the Badgers to their second-ever appearance in the NCAA championships. The Osceola, Wis., native carded a career-best, 3-under par (72-86-73=213) to capture her first career individual title at the Hoosier Fall Invitational this season, as the score also tied for a school record 54-hole total.
