MADISON, Wis. -- It's easy to just throw in the towel and give up when a season hasn't quite gone your way.

The Badgers proved their still willing to battle for every point.

A game that saw just four shots on goal between the two teams, the Badgers (3-9-2, 0-5-0 Big Ten) did enough to claim the victory, led by Schneider's goal in the 64th minute and goalkeeper Casey Beyers completing his first shutout and win of the season for Wisconsin.

A game that saw just four shots on goal between the two teams, the Badgers (3-9-2, 0-5-0 Big Ten) came out on the right side of things behind Schneider's goal in the 65th minute and goalkeeper Casey Beyers earned his first win and shutout of the season for Wisconsin.

"Sometimes when you're not having a good season, this is the kind of game that rallies the guys," UW head coach John Trask said. "It was not a game for the faint of heart. You get to look at your teammates and see which guy is going to be there."

 Fast Facts
• Schneider scores first goal of season; second of career
• Badgers improve to 3-3-0 in games when scoring first
• Beyers earns first win of the season with two saves

Six different Badgers stepped up to record shots as part of a balanced offensive attack for Wisconsin. While the Panthers (5-9-2, 2-3-1 Horizon League) did manage to outshoot UW, 9-8, the Badgers won the corner kick battle, 3-2, in a physical match where each team had to grind out its offensive opportunities.

"There wasn't a lot happening for them and there wasn't a lot happening for us," Trask said. "That's sometimes how it goes. We know them. They know us. We knocked them out of the NCAA tournament last year."

The Badgers hosted the Panthers in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season, as UW also earned a 1-0 victory in the postseason meeting.

The first half of Wednesday night's match played out to a scoreless first half, despite good possession and some offensive pressure from the Badgers. Mark Segbers nearly got the Badgers on the board in just the second minute of the game, but his shot struck the far post.

It wasn't until midway through the second half that Schneider helped get UW on the board. The defender from Madison scored with a header in the box left post, which snuck through the legs of Milwaukee goalkeeper Liam Anderson and into the net at the 64:30 mark. Luc Kazmierczak set up the score with his cross, earning the assist and his first career point.

It marked the second-career goal for Schneider, and most important, stood as the game-winning goal.

Wisconsin improved to 3-3-0 in games this season when scoring first. The Badgers have also scored 11 of their 15 goals this season in the second half.

The defense closed out the shutout, as Beyers (1-3-1) was called on to make just two saves on the night. All three of UW's wins this season have come in shutout fashion.

Closing out its non-conference schedule, Wisconsin takes to the road this weekend and resumes conference play with a trip to face No. 12 Penn State on Sunday.
