MADISON, Wis. -- Genevieve Richard of the No. 12 Wisconsin women's soccer team was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The fifth-year senior goalkeeper earned her third defensive league honor this season and the fourth Big Ten Player of the Week honor of her career.
The Saint-Bruno, Quebec, native recorded back-to-back shutouts over the weekend, including six saves to help the Badgers (15-2-1, 9-2-1 Big Ten) defeat No. 16 Rutgers, 1-0, last Friday. Richard also recorded three saves and helped UW stun Maryland with a 1-0 victory in double overtime on Sunday.
Tallying her 10th and 11th shutouts of the season last weekend, Richard moved up into a tie for third in school history for shutouts in a season. With 18 shutouts over her career, Richard ranks eighth in program history for career shutouts.
Richard currently leads the Big Ten in shutouts with 11, as the next closest is Casey Murphy of Rutgers with eight. Having allowed just seven goals all season, Richard also leads the league in save percentage (.899) and goals against average (0.40). She ranks ninth in the NCAA for goals against average and 17th for save percentage.
Wisconsin's last four Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors have all been claimed by Richard, who most recently took home the accolade on Oct. 13.
