MADISON, Wis. -- Fifth-year senior Genevieve Richard was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District team, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
The eighth honoree in program history, Richard is an international studies major and has earned a 3.31 cumulative grade point average.
A native of Saint-Bruno, Quebec, Richard has recorded 11 shutouts this season and played a key role in leading No. 11 Wisconsin (15-2-1, 9-2-1 Big Ten) to one of the most successful seasons in program history. She recently moved into a tie for third in school history for shutouts in a season, and also now ranks eighth in program history for career shutouts (18).
Richard currently leads the Big Ten in shutouts and has allowed just seven goals all season. She also leads the conference in save percentage (.899) and goals against average (0.40). Richard ranks fourth in the NCAA for save percentage and seventh for goals against average.
Wisconsin's first Academic All-America District honoree since 2005, Richard is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors this season, which will be chosen in mid-November.
The Capital One Academic All-America program recognizes starters or key reserves on his or her team who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and are at least a sophomore athletically and academically.
