HARTFORD, Wis.- The men’s golf team capped off the Erin Hills Invitational weekend Oct. 4-7 in Hartford, Wis., at sixth place in an 11-team intercollegiate that featured three top 25 teams.
Wisconsin finished 31-over par at 302-300-293--895. No. 15 UCLA captured the title with a 5-under 859, after achieving 14-under in the final round 274 today.
Bryson Dechambeau of No. 8 SMU held on to first place at a 4-under 212, which is one stroke better than his third place run last year.
Chase Koepka of No. 7 South Florida and Jonathan Garrick of UCLA scored the low of the tournament and flirted with the 18-hole course record of 65, both scoring 66’s.
For the Badgers, Eddie Wajda III led the pack tying for 14th, making this the first time a freshman came out on top since 2012, when now-junior Matt Ross finished first as a freshman for Wisconsin.
Wajda is has the second-best scoring average among the Badgers this season with a 73.83 along with senior Jack Watson, after recording his best tournament finish this weekend.
Holding the season-best scoring average is still Rob Jacobsen with a 73.5. Jacobsen finished tied for 18th and one stroke behind Wajda.
Individual Tommy Schofield recorded a career-best 18-hole score, shooting a 69 which brought him one stroke short of his 54-hole career-best.
Thomas O’Bryan and Jack Watson both tied for 31st, with a 10-over 226. Matt Ross ended with a 81-79-75–235.
Competing individually for Wisconsin, Johnny Decker tied his 54-hole career best, finishing with a 229 and tied for 40th.
The Badgers take almost a month-long break before their next tournament, Nov. 3-5 at UCLA.
