COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The season came to an abrupt end for the Wisconsin men's soccer team on Saturday, as the Badgers were eliminated from the 2014 Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament in a 5-2 loss to Rutgers at Ludwig Field.

Freshmen forwards Tom Barlow and Mark Segbers each scored, but it was not enough to help the Badgers (3-12-3) match a five-goal performance by the Scarlet Knights.

While ninth-seeded Wisconsin was only outshot 20-14 in the game, two first-half goals propelled eighth-seeded Rutgers (6-11-1) to a win. Advancing to the tournament quarterfinals, the Scarlet Knights scored the most goals against the Badgers in a game this season.

 Fast Facts
• Barlow and Segbers each score team-leading fifth goal of the season in loss.
• Beyers starts game, but Remeniuk finishes at goalie.
• Wisconsin finishes the 2014 season 3-12-3.

Barlow finished with a game-high five shots, including his goal. Segbers tallied three shots, including two shots on goal and his score. The two freshmen from St. Louis, Missouri, finished the season sharing the team lead in goals this season with five each.

Casey Beyers earned the start at goalkeeper and made five saves in the game, but was later replaced by Adrian Remeniuk in the second half after allow five goals.

The first goal of the game came in the 19th minute, as Jason Wright tapped a pass from the baseline in front of Beyers and then Thomas O'Rourke was able to finish off the goal scoring far post.

Rutgers struck again just before halftime, as Nate Bruccoleri scored at the 43:23 mark by beating Beyers left post.

The lead would swell to 3-0 in the 60th minute, as Wright came through with a goal with assist from Bruccoleri.

Segbers finally helped Wisconsin get on the board and cut into the lead in the 63rd minute, taking an outlet pass down the right side and beating Rutgers' goalkeeper David Greczek for the score.

The Scarlet Knights had a quick response, however, scoring just over a minute later on the free kick from 20 yards out taken by Mitchell Taintor.

Wright came through again with his second goal of the game and put things out of reach in the 71st minute, giving Rutgers a commanding 5-1 lead.

Barlow was able to get the Badgers one last score in the 83rd minute, taking an outlet pass from Jacob Brindle and beating Greczek far post for the score.

Brindle had a hand in each of Wisconsin's goals, tallying an assist on each.

Wisconsin finished the game with 14 shots, including five shots on goal. It was not enough to hang with Rutgers, however, which totalled 11 shots on goal.

Saturday's match marked the second meeting between Wisconsin and Rutgers this season. The two had a much tighter outing in their first meeting, which ended in a 3-2 overtime win for the Scarlet Knights.
