MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Athletic Department saw an all-time high in its sustainability and recycling efforts during the 2014 football season as Wisconsin recycled 45.2 tons of waste with a 32.2-perent diversion rate, both of which are all-time highs at Wisconsin.
After placing an increased awareness on improving sustainability efforts over the past few seasons at Camp Randall, this year's efforts resulted in a seven percent gain from 2013.
"We worked really hard this season to continue to grow our recycling efforts at Camp Randall Stadium" stated Ben Fraser, Director of External Engagment. "Our relationship with our campus partners is a key to our success, and being able to team up with the dedicated students of the University of Wisconsin, is something that we all can be proud of."
Wisconsin Athletics also began composting this season at Camp Randall Stadium and was able to provide the University of Wisconsin West Research Farms with nearly a ton of compost to be used on their research fields.
After setting all-time highs in recycling and diversion rate, Wisconsin ranked very high on the national scene as well. In all, Wisconsin was 24th nationally in total pounds recycled for the annual GameDay Challenge. Among schools in the B1G, Wisconsin was third in waste minimization, second in green-house gas reduction and fourth in GHG Reduction.
Wisconsin looks to continue to expand next season on its composting efforts and continue to grow its overall sustainability efforts as a leader both in the B1G Ten and across the country.
