Badgers participate in Wisconsin State Open August 18-20

MADISON, Wis. -- Several current, future and former Badgers are competing Aug. 18-20 in the 94th Wisconsin State at the par 72 The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls.
The 72-hole stroke play event features 156 of the top golfers from throughout the State of Wisconsin. Golfers play 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday. The field is then cut to the low 60 and ties for final two medal rounds both on Wednesday.
Current and future Badgers include sophomore Ben Skogen from Onalaska, Wis.; junior Matt Ross from Hartland, Wis.; senior Rob Jacobsen from Racine, Wis.; freshman Eddie Wajda III from Brookfield, Wis.; and UW assistant Coach Robbie Ziegler.
Wajda played in the first wave this morning and is one of only 14 golfers under par and tied for eighth with a 1-under 71. He had three birdies including deuces on two of the par 3s. Jacobsen is tied for 22nd with a 1 over 73. Skogen is in a huge group along with Ziegler at 4-over and tied for 54th. Ross had a 7-over 79 and is tied for 94th.
Eric Busalacchi of Waukesha, Wis., is the early leader in the clubhouse with a 6-under 66. Fresh off his recent appearance the PGA Championships, former Badger Ryan Helminen, a PGA pro at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah, Wis., is tied for second with Kevin Cahill at 4-under. Helminen was the top club pro in the PGA tournament and just missed the cut at 2-over.
Play resumes tomorrow at 7:15 a.m. with the field reversed. The second wave tees off about 1 p.m.
