Jacobsen leads UW contingent in 94th Wisconsin Open

MADISON, Wis. -- Four Badgers survived the 36-hole cut and continue play August 20 in the 94th Wisconsin State at the par 72 The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls.
Senior Rob Jacobsen from Racine, Wis. led the contingent tying for 25th with a 4-over par 73-75--148. Freshman Eddie Wajda III from Brookfield, Wis., was 1-under yesterday but balooned to a 71-78--149 and is tied for 27th. Junior Matt Ross from Hartland, Wis., was 2-under for the day and is also tied at 27th with 79-70--149.
UW assistant coach Robbie Ziegler is 7-over for the tournament and tied for 38th with 76-75--151. Sophomore Ben Skogen from Onalaska, Wis., did not make the cut after shooting an 11-over 76-79--155. The cut was the top 60 players with ties and was at 153.
Charles Delsman of Colgate, Wis., was 5-under today and is 8-under for the tournament with 69-67--136. Fresh off his recent appearance the PGA Championships, former Badger Ryan Helminen, a PGA pro at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah, Wis., remained in second with a 7-under 68-69--137. Helminen was the top club pro in the PGA tournament and just missed the cut at 2-over.
Players resume play Wednesday with 36-holes beginning at 7 a.m. The 72-hole stroke play event featured 156 of the top golfers from throughout the State of Wisconsin.
