EVANSTON, Ill.- Today was a record-breaking final day at the 18th-annual Windon Memorial hosted by Northwestern.
Top-ranked California took home the trophy, as the only team under par on the 6,793-yard course in Evanston, Illinois. The Bears scored a 270 Monday to stay 10-under. Their 6-under 54-hole score of 834 breaks the tournament's record by nine strokes.
The individual champion from Tulsa achieved a record of his own. Colton Staggs tied the Evanston's golf course record of 7-under 63 in the third round of the tournament to finish 5-under with a 69-73-63--205.
However, Wisconsin didn't get as lucky. The team finished 14th out of 15 teams, dropping two spots from yesterday with a 35-over 290-289-296-875.
Rob Jacobsen led the Badgers for the second tournament this season, scoring 73-74-70- 217. His third round score of 70 was tied for the 14th lowest score of the day out of the 118 golfers.
Eddie Wajda III, who led the Badgers after 36-holes, finished with a 9-over 72-68-79--219 which is a 54-hole career best for the freshman to put him tied for 41st. Earlier in the tournament, he set his 18 and 36-hole career bests. Today he was also among nine other competitors who scored an eagle.
Tied for 59th, Thomas O'Bryan stayed consistent throughout the event, scoring a 73-74-75-222.
Jack Watson and Payton Taylor finished out the Badgers at 225 and 226 respectively, both with an outlier score of 80 in one of the rounds.
Next up is the three-day Badger Invitational, held at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison from Sunday to Tuesday, Sept. 28-30.
