In true fashion, the match started off with the 125 lbs. weight class. Wisconsin's Matt Cavallaris battled Michigan State's Mitch Rogaliner. Rogaliner led 3-2 after the first period and 5-2 heading into the third. In the third period, Rogaliner pinned Cavallaris at 5:14 putting the Spartans up 6-0. This was Wisconsin's first and only loss of the day.
At 133 lbs., No. 10 Ryan Taylor wrestled fellow sophomore Hermilo Esquivel. Taylor recorded his fourth pin of the season at 2:13 allowing the Badgers to tie, 6-6.
Next up was Wisconsin's Jesse Thielke against Brandon Fifield. Thielke defeated Fifield with a 9-1 major decision, moving Wisconsin to a 10-6 lead. To keep the dual rolling, 149 lbs. Rylan Lubeck recorded a 3-1 sudden victory against Nick Trimble.
Freshman Jarod Donar took on Michigan State's sophomore Travis Curley for the 157 lbs. class. A 4-0 decision shot the Badgers to a 16-6 lead halfway through the dual.
No. 3 Isaac Jordan compiled another win with a 5-1 decision over Roger Wildmo. Jordan is now 17-1 on the season. At 174 lbs., Frank Cousins defeated Nick Proctor with an extravagant 14-3 major decision, bringing the Badgers ahead to 23-6.
Wisconsin freshman Ricky Robertson met up with Michigan State's John Rizqallah. Robertson stayed consistent with his stupendous season while recording a 3-1 decision.
"It was a great bounce back from Friday," Wisconsin head coach Barry Davis said. "They challenged the guys and they responded well. It shows we're moving in the right direction and that's good to see."
At 197 lbs., senior Timmy McCall wrestled Nick McDiarmid. McCall marked a 5-3 decision before turning the mat over to teammate Connor Medbery in the final match of the dual. The heavyweight opposed Chris Nash with high intensity. Medbery's 15-1 technical fall landed the Badgers with a final 34-6 victory.
The Badgers are back in action at the UW Field House on Friday, February 6.
