MADISON, Wis. – The fall season continued for the Wisconsin women's rowing team Sunday, and it continued in a big way.

The Badgers pulled off first-place finishes in both the varsity four and varsity eight races, while also getting multiple strong performances from the younger members of the team.

The day full of races also gave the Badgers a unique opportunity, according to head coach Bebe Bryans.

"It was a little bit of a different day for us. The varsity openweights all raced in the morning," Bryans said. "Everybody raced in the pairs with the exception of Diana Glinos who raced in the single. So that was really fun to have that many pairs out."

In those pairs races, with 17 total entries for UW, the Wisconsin A boat grabbed the top spot with a time of 18:59.8. The Wisconsin B and the Wisconsin E boats rounded out the podium with times of 19:19.6 and 19:27.3, respectively.

In the varsity four and the varsity eight races, Wisconsin took five of the top six spots between the two races. That included the top three finishes in the fours, where the Wisconsin A, Wisconsin B and Wisconsin C boats finished first, second and third. The Wisconsin A boat crossed the line first with a time of 18:08.9, Wisconsin B came in at 18:36.0 and Wisconsin C followed at 19:16.8.

Despite some non-ideal weather conditions, Wisconsin still had quality performances all-around according to lightweight coach Dusty Mattison.

"The wind came up in the middle of the day, the conditions were not ideal, but they did a great job of staying calm and long and relaxed, which is what we've been working on in general," Mattison said. "And they had the opportunity to really focused on that."

The varsity eight race featured two Wisconsin entries, and the Badgers walked away with the top two spots. The Wisconsin A boat cruised to a first-place finish, coming in at 17:21.2, while Wisconsin B easily took second, crossing the line in a time of 18:30.6.

But the strong performances for Wisconsin weren't just limited to the varsity squad. The younger members also got in on the action in the novice races, sweeping the podium in the novice eight and grabbing four of the top five spots in the novice four. In the novice eight, the Wisconsin B, Wisconsin C and Wisconsin D boats went one, two, three, respectively.

In the novice four, the Wisconsin A, Wisconsin B, Wisconsin D and Wisconsin C boats swept the top four spots in that order.

"It's a great opportunity for the walk-on freshmen to experience their first race and for all freshmen to experience their first collegiate race," lightweight coach Dusty Mattison said. "There were lots of medals handed out to those guys which they were obviously very excited about."
