Wisconsin places fourth and ninth in the open eights and fours, respectively
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Wisconsin Badgers lightweight rowing team continued on their fall racing schedule at the 60th annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday.Â
Rowers competed on a challenging three-mile course down the Charles River just west of downtown Boston, in front of thousands of spectators on the banks of the river. Wisconsin competed against crews from across the country, including Princeton, Georgetown and Boston University.
The eight crew, led by coxswain Emilie Rochon, highlighted the weekend for the lightweights. They collected a time of 16:48.255 for a fourth-place finish, just short of Georgetown in third.Â
Despite an early setback due to a collision, the lightweight fours, coxed by Maggie Wagner, persevered and crossed the finish line in ninth with a time of 18:59.326. The Badgers were within five seconds of the fifth place finisher and just a fraction of a second behind Princeton B.Â
Straight from the Shore:
Coach Hodge Habibovic
"Today was another huge step for our program. The Varsity 8+ getting 4th place is an exciting early indication of speed as we head into the rest of the fall season. We had a really unfortunate collision happen in the four race due to fault of another team so it's always frustrating when you can't perform to your full potential for reasons outside of your control but we will use that as fuel going forward. We have been building and are ready to continue to make statements this spring."Â
Up Next: The Badgers will continue fall racing, returning to Madison for a scrimmage against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 25.Â
