Senior defender led Badgers in pair of road shutouts last week
MADISON, Wis. – Brianna Stelzer has been an anchor on the backline for the Wisconsin women's soccer team all year long and has played a key role in its recent success, which includes six straight shutouts. As a result, the senior defender was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Stelzer and the Badgers (8-4-3, 5-1-1 Big Ten) posted a pair of road shutouts last week, blanking Iowa 2-0 and limiting Nebraska in a 3-0 win. It marked the first two road wins of the season for Wisconsin, which extended its winning streak to five games.
"The Badgers' second half surge continued with road wins against Iowa and Nebraska, both coming by virtue of a shutout," TopDrawerSoccer wrote. "Stelzer played every minute of both wins as Wisconsin remained in the hunt."
The Lakeville, Minnesota native was recently named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week last Tuesday and was an honorable mention for the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week last week as well.
Wisconsin is back home this week for games against Michigan and Michigan State. The Badgers and Wolverines face Thursday and are currently tied for second place in the Big Ten standings. Thursday's game will kick off at 7 p.m. CT at the McClimon Complex and be broadcast live on national television by BTN.
