October 13, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Midfielder from Barrie, Ontario, had a goal and an assist last week
MADISON, Wis. – It hasn't taken long for newcomer Victoria Pickett to make an impact for the Wisconsin women's soccer team. That's been evident in the midfielder's play, as she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
The Barrie, Ontario native scored one goal and added an assist for a three-point week to help the Badgers (8-4-3, 5-1-1 Big Ten) earn a pair of road victories at Iowa and Nebraska.
Pickett scored her second goal of the season against Iowa and also had an assist against Nebraska to help the Badgers win their fourth and fifth straight games. Her goal against Nebraska stood as the game-winner, as UW earned its first road wins of the year with back-to-back shutouts last week.
She ranks fourth on the team this season with seven points on two goals and three assists.
The first Freshman of the Week plaudit for Pickett, she becomes the first Badger to earn the honor since current teammate Kylie Schwarz did in 2013.
A member of the Canadian youth program, Pickett played with Wisconsin teammate Kinley McNicoll at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto this past summer. Both Pickett and McNicoll also represented host Canada at the 2014 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup.
