UW unable to continue in-state domination against Green Bay

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team dropped its match against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay by a final score of 4-1, snapping the Badgers' perfect 7-0 record against their in-state rival.
UW began the duel by clinching the doubles point for the second consecutive match, earning victories on courts 2 and 3.
The freshman pair of Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza and Josef Dodridge quickly dispatched their Phoenix opponents, Joey Leto and Howard Scott, 6-1, while the other freshman duo of Lamar Remy and Tomas Pitra defeated Florian Kraenzler and Leopold Gomez Islinger by a final score of 6-2.
On doubles court 1, juniors Alexander Kokorev and Jakhongir Jalalov were one game away from a victory at the time of the match's conclusion (5-2).
Singles action proved to be a challenge for the Badgers, as Green Bay went point-for-point with UW on all courts and ultimately took the match.
On court 2, Kokorev battled back to win his second set and even up the score, but Green Bay's Gomez Islinger was able to overcome the momentum swing and won the match by a final score of 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3. Pitra also fought his way into the third set before retiring and dropping his contest, 7-5, 5-7, 3-1.
Jalalov was unable to outlast his Phoenix opponent and dropped his match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, while freshman Darius Mackenzie put up a good fight before falling to Joshua Schramm of Green Bay in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Both Dodridge and Remy were not given the opportunity to finish their singles contests.
The Badgers will look to rebound tomorrow, as the team hosts non-conference foe Nebraska-Omaha at Nielsen Tennis Stadium at 11 a.m. (CT).
