Badgers move into No. 24 spot in national rankings
MADISON, Wis. – For the first time since Aug. 6, 2014, the Wisconsin men's soccer team has been ranked by the National Soccer Coaches Association, announced Tuesday. The Badgers have been slotted as the No. 24 team in the country.
The last time UW (8-3-3 overall, 3-2-2 Big Ten) was ranked was in the 2014 preseason NSCAA poll, where it was picked as the No. 21 team in the country.
The Badgers have tied two of the teams in the current poll, No. 10 Indiana and No. 13 Michigan State, and lost to top-ranked Maryland, 3-2, in overtime.
Wisconsin takes its spot in the rankings after posting back-to-back home shutouts and remaining undefeated at the McClimon Complex this season. The Badgers were receiving votes last week (3) and had received votes earlier in the season in the Sept. 20 poll.
UW hosts Western Illinois and Ohio State in its final two games of the regular season. Tuesday's game vs. Western Illinois (6-7-1, 2-2-0 Summit) kicks off at 7 p.m. Sunday's match against Ohio State (5-10-1, 3-3-1) at noon also serves as senior day for Casey Beyers, Brian Hail and Matej Radonic.
The Badgers look to continue a seven-match unbeaten streak at home in their final two-match homestand. Tuesday's game will be streamed live on BTN Plus. Fans can also follow along with live stats on UWBadgers.com and live updates on Twitter at @BadgerMSoccer for both contests.
