Five Badgers earn Big Ten postseason honors

Lavelle named Midfielder of the Year for second consecutive season

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team garnered several awards on Friday, headlined by one individual award winner, as the Big Ten Conference announced its season-ending awards. Highlighting a stellar senior season, Rose Lavelle was named Midfielder of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Lavelle was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the first student-athlete to earn the honor in back-to-back years since its debut in 2011. Lavelle finished third in the Big Ten with 66 shots this year, and during conference play she tied for fourth in the Big Ten with five goals and tied for sixth with 11 points. She is a four-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and most recently collected Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 28.

Junior Caitlyn Clem garnered the second All-Big Ten honor of her career, landing a spot on the All-Big Ten third team. Clem has been a force in net for the Badgers, collecting 59 saves this season and eight shutouts.

Freshmen Dani Rhodes and Allie Winterfield earned spots on the All-Big Ten Freshman team, marking the most freshmen the program has had on the team since both Rose Lavelle and Kylie Schwarz collected the honor in 2013.

Rhodes earns the recognition after starting her collegiate career with a bang in 2016, tallying six points and three goals.

Also in her debut season, Winterfield was the only freshman to start in all 19 games this season. She has logged 1,124 minutes so far this year and has recorded 16 shots.

The Big Ten also recognized 14 Sportsmanship Award honorees, which included UW sophomore Chloe Knudtson. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. They also must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the competition setting.

The Badgers were awarded the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten tournament and travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to face the fourth-seeded Michigan Wolverines on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.
