Senior earns award for second straight year
MADISON, Wis. – Senior Rose Lavelle capped off what was an incredible career for the Wisconsin women's soccer team in 2016 and the stellar performance in her senior campaign earned her recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), as she earned first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors for the second year in a row.
Lavelle earns the award after she recorded a team-leading 16 points, six goals, 74 shots, 31 shots on goal and two-game winning goals. Additionally, she ranked second on the team with four assists on the year.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native saw action in all 22 games this season with an average of 3.36 shots per game and 0.73 points per game.
Lavelle has garnered many other awards this season, including being named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list and being ranked as the No. 1 preseason player of the year by TopDrawerSoccer.
Most notably, she was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the first student-athlete to earn the honor in back-to-back years since its debut in 2011. Lavelle concluded her collegiate career as a four-time first-team All-Big Ten selection.
