Wisconsin will host Marquette on Friday at McClimon Complex
MADISON, Wis. – For the first time since 2014, the Wisconsin women's soccer team has earned a bid in the NCAA tournament. The Badgers (8-4-8 overall) will host 1-94 rival Marquette (12-7-2) in the first round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins makes her 11th appearance in the NCAA tournament as a head coach and fifth with the Badgers.
It will be UW's 19th appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Badgers hold a 14-17-2 (.455) all-time NCAA tournament record.
Wisconsin met Marquette just once this season in an exhibition game on Aug. 11. UW came away with the 2-0 victory in Milwaukee.
UW leads the all-time series with Marquette 6-5-2 and 3-2-0 in Madison. The last time the two teams met in a regular game was in the 2010 postseason. The Badgers battled the Golden Eagles to a 2-2 draw but lost in the penalty kick shootout in Milwaukee. The two in-state rivals are 1-1-1 against each other in the NCAA tournament.
Eight Big Ten teams made it into the first round of the NCAA tournament and all eight are host teams.
Not only will the Badgers have the luxury of opening NCAA tournament play in Madison, they have the personnel poised to make a deep run.
Senior Rose Lavelle was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for the second consecutive season. She became the first student-athlete to earn the honor in back-to-back years since the award's debut in 2011. She is now a four-time, first-team All-Big Ten selection, the first four-time winner in program history.
Additionally, Caitlyn Clem garnered the second All-Big Ten honor of her career, landing a spot on the All-Big Ten third team. Freshmen Dani Rhodes and Allie Winterfield earned spots on the All-Big Ten Freshman team, marking the most freshmen the program has had on the team since both Rose Lavelle and Kylie Schwarz collected the honor in 2013.
The 2016 College Cup will be held Dec. 2-4 in San Jose, California.
Advanced tickets will go on-sale Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and can be purchased until Friday at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at UWBadgers.com, over the phone by calling 1.800.GO.BADGERS or 608.262.1440, or in person at the Wisconsin Athletic Ticket Office, between the business hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for youth/students/seniors.
